AKA Rewriting

AKA Teamwork makes the dreamwork

I did another draft. We had another writers meeting with Sean, Mike, and Myself. Jakub once again wasn’t involved in the meeting. He probably should have been but I also am coming around to think that you should get different feedback from different groups of people. They don’t necessary need to be in the same meetings to give it. That could just be a cop out though.

Either way — This meeting was a little different as episodes 1–9 are close to being locked. It’s generally just minor things with those episodes at this point. I.E. does this line work? Do we need to go back and add a prop in episode X so we have it in episode X? Where is X character standing at the end of this episode so they are where the need to be for the next episode.

Thats largely what we went over for those episodes and I should have those changes done by the end of the week.

Episode 10 though is where things got interesting. For all intensive purposes episode 9 is really the finally. We all know we are not topping that episode (when you see the series you’ll understand why I say that). That makes episode 10, the technical finally of the season one/the series really hard to write. I did a draft of it and it was pretty bad. I had asked Sean to do a rewrite on it, hoping he could come up with something better.

Sean took my draft/concepts and expanded upon it. He also gave us the draft 10 minutes before the meeting. We did something interesting here — since each episode is at most 5 pages in length we went over it line by line and rewrote it as a team.

I have to say it was an interesting concept, team writing. I’m sure “bigger” shows do that in their writers room but I had never experienced it before. I liked it. I think thats how we are going to get to the final drafts, go over each episode line by line, make changes then and there, sit on it for a week, and if we are still happy with it, submit it to Filmaka.

If you are wondering how the rewrite of episode 10 went? It went really well. I’m really happy with the new ending.

See you in the next installment!
