Reaper, Inc. — Part 5 — Writing 2

AKA Notes

Part of the writing process is getting notes. Getting notes is an odd experience. It hurts — a lot. It also helps — a lot. When other people read your work they point out things you missed, things you didn’t think about, and hopefully have suggestions to improve. Notes are critical to a good, solid, script with minimal to no plot holes. They also break your heart.

A lot of the times things you loved while writing people will hate and you have to cut. Sometimes things you thought were clear were not and need to be fleshed out. Sometimes you realize that some things (in my case an entire episode!) just doesn’t fit.

Thats were the magic happens though — in notes. In feedback. In revision.

We just had our first writers meeting. Due to the current pandemic (COVID19) we did it virtually, over facetime. Sean (Producer/Director), Mike (Producer/Post/Director) spoke for a couple hours going over their feedback, my thought process, and what can improve. Jakub (Producer/DP), who has given me, lots of valuable feedback, wasn’t in on the call. He should have been but wasn’t, my bad. Sorry.

In the end we came up with a plan to fix a few plot holes, how to rewrite an episode (8) that felt like filer and I gave them each an episode to work on/fix.

However one thing is clear — we are close to a verison we can submit to Filmaka for approval. Oddly enough, even though we can’t shoot for the foreseeable future, we are pretty much right on our original schedule.

Go figure.

See you in the next installment!
