My Next Film — “The Alexis Project”

AKA Guess I’m making a proof of concept.

So a bit ago I wrote I wasn’t sure what I wanted to make. I had originally wanted to do something small and contained. Well somehow I’m doing something — not quite the opposite — but not really as small as I wanted.

I decided to make a trailer/proof of concept for Filmriot’s Make Film Challenge. Instead of a (max) 4 person, 1–2 actor, 1 day shoot, somehow I landed on a 9 (total) person, with 3 actors, 1 in heavy make up, 2 day shoot. I’m really proud of the script, “The Alexis Project”, and I think it’s some of my best work yet. However I’m just baffled how this thing has grown somewhat out of control. I had to scale back and let the DP know we were not bringing anyone else on as we are-

1: At 9 (total) people. We could go a bit higher, sure, but I don’t want to.

2: I just can’t afford it and paying everyone but 1–2 people feels wrong.

3: I’m already over budget by what I wanted to spend by a lot. In for a penny, in for a pound I suppose.

We have a really good gaffer (the best I’ve ever worked with) and a very good sound person. I haven’t worked with the make up artist before but she has sent me some test shots and they look great, I’m looking forward to working with her.

The cast are all people I’ve worked with or someone who is on the shoot has worked with before. I have Erika (from Battery Box) playing lexi, Amanda (from Evil Lurks) playing Megan, and Martin, who I have not worked with before, but comes highly recommended, playing John.

I’m not worried about the performances. I am a bit worried about the locations since they are both rented. One is an Airbnb who has given us permission to shoot here and one is a studio that I rented. I have yet to see either in person but from the pictures they look great. I’m also a bit worried about someone getting sick right before and having drop out.

Well cross that bridge if and when we get there. The show must go on!
